United Nations Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon was the guest of honor of the evening, and presented the prizes to the winners.
The UNCA Global Citizen and Advocate of the Year Awards are the top prizes given to a person who is working on solutions to various global issues, from conflict and humanitarian disasters, peace and security to climate change. Previous winners include President Bill Clinton, Sir Richard Branson, Angelina Jolie, Ted Turner, Columbia Professor Jeffery Sachs, Nicholas Cage, Mira Sorvino, John Prendergast, Raymond G. Chambers with Professor Awa Marie Coll-Seck, Forest Whitaker and Governor Arnold Schwarzenegger.

The winners were awarded at the 18th annual UNCA Awards event on:
