United Nations Correspondents Association (UNCA)

In 1948, UNCA was founded as a professional organization dedicated to representing international correspondents reporting on global affairs.

Its creation marked the beginning of a formal platform for journalists covering major international developments, diplomatic discussions, and issues of global importance. At a time when the world was rebuilding after years of conflict, accurate and responsible journalism played a vital role in helping the public understand international cooperation, peace efforts, and political change.

UNCA provided correspondents with a collective voice and a professional identity. It supported journalists working in a demanding global news environment and helped strengthen the relationship between the press and international institutions.

The year 1948 remains an important milestone in UNCA’s history. It represents the start of a long-standing commitment to press access, journalistic responsibility, and the reporting of global affairs with accuracy, independence, and professionalism.

From its foundation, UNCA has continued to reflect the essential role of correspondents in connecting international events with audiences around the world.
