About Us

United Nations Correspondents Association (UNCA)

A Legacy of Excellence in Journalism

Founded in 1948, the United Nations Correspondents Association (UNCA) is a professional organization representing over 200 correspondents and producers from across the globe. Our members work with a wide range of publications, news agencies, and broadcasters, covering the United Nations and its associated organizations. UNCA serves as the official voice of the UN press corps, advocating for press freedom, access to information, and the rights of journalists covering global issues.

Our Role at the United Nations

The relationship between UNCA and the United Nations is rooted in an agreement made in 1955, which remains recognized by the United Nations General Assembly each year, with the most recent recognition occurring in 2018. UNCA plays a key role in representing the UN press corps at the United Nations, focusing on critical issues related to news coverage and access to vital news sources.

Supporting Journalistic Excellence

UNCA is committed to recognizing outstanding journalistic work through various initiatives. We sponsor press briefings that address key international issues and host an annual gala dinner celebrating exceptional journalism. This event honors prominent individuals and organizations making significant contributions to humanitarian causes and reporting.

In addition to these initiatives, UNCA is proud to be affiliated with the Dag Hammarskjold Fund for Journalists. This fund supports journalists from developing countries, providing them with valuable opportunities to cover the United Nations during the annual General Assembly sessions.
